Olivia Ray Day May 3, 2013

May 3 is officially Olivia Ray Day at Holt Middle School. It is a day dedicated to honor Olivia Ray, a little girl who liked to help other people.

Olivia’s Basket was formed after the accident that took Olivia’s life as she was crossing at a crosswalk on October 3, 2009. Since that time with contributions from friends around the world, 8 homes have been built for families in need using over 70 volunteers, over 35 volunteers have been part of Team Olivia for Crosswalk Safety Awareness with the University, students In Rwanda and Honduras can attend school through sponsorships, and 3 more houses are being built this summer with area volunteers.

The 7th grade class at Holt Middle School chose Olivia’s Basket to donate to from a variety of charities they explored at an event last fall held at the school.

They have a week-long set of events to celebrate Olivia’s life and encourage fellow classmates the be involved because even something small can add up to something big.

Some of the events are: two teachers have volunteered to dye their hair purple when students contribute, a display is set up and students can contribute and receive a bright orange carpenters pencil representing Olivia’s basket and building houses, posters have been made, announcements put together, flyers sent home…

MAY 3 (which is Olivia’s 14th birthday) is officially OLIVIA RAY DAY at Holt Middle School. Students and staff are wearing bright colored shirts in honor of Olivia and being asked to pledge to Crosswalk Safety Awareness.

A school wide assembly is set for May 15 where a check will be presented to Olivia’s family. We are incredibly grateful and in awe of these students so willing to give of themselves to help others.

Explore Olivia’s Basket. We hope it inspires you.
